MapYourTag is used every day in two ways: the mobile app for field operations (scanning tags, updating status) and the website for managing assets, reviewing history and configuring your account. This guide covers the daily use of both.

Open the MapYourTag app and tap the scan button. Point your phone's camera at a QR code or barcode, or hold your phone near an NFC tag. The app instantly opens the matching asset record. If the tag is not yet assigned to an asset, you can create a new asset or link it to an existing one from your database.

Every scan opens a status update screen. Depending on how your account is configured, you can:

Each update is saved instantly and becomes part of the asset's permanent history.

From the website or the app, open any asset to see its complete scan history: every check-in, check-out, status change, comment and photo, with the date, time and user who made the update. This history is what cleaning, maintenance and field service teams use as proof of service.

The website (mapyourtag.com) is where you manage your asset database at scale: create and edit assets, define custom attributes, organize assets into groups, set alerts on expiry or maintenance deadlines, and locate assets on a map based on their last scanned position.

Configure alerts on any date field — for example a maintenance deadline or a certification expiry date. MapYourTag notifies you before the deadline so nothing is missed.

Every scan records the phone's location at the time of the scan. The map view shows where each asset was last seen, which is useful to locate equipment or verify that a team member scanned at the expected site.

Asset data can be exported for reporting, or synced automatically to a Google Spreadsheet via webhooks. Developers can also connect MapYourTag to other systems through the API.
